New paper: how an online language platform becomes a tool for public engagement

Our partners at the Research Center of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU) Urška Vranjek Ošlak and Helena Dobrovoljc have published a paper detailing the work done by done within the GRACE project, focusing on one of our main RRI objectives: public engagement.

In particular, they have managed public engagement mechanisms which have been integrated into the central language counselling platform for the Slovenian language (Jezikovna svetovalnica).

Public Engagement: an RRI objective for GRACE

The platform allows contribution from the public, who can pose language-related questions and dilemmas which are answered by linguists and published on the platform.

Already well-established and known among users, the platform had great potential to become a good tool for public-oriented research; yet, it was mainly used to address standard language issues.

Thanks to our partners’ commitment, the existing software infrastructure is currently being upgraded to transform the platform with the consensual integration of public engagement mechanisms. The upgrade will be finalised in October 2021.

The paper has been published as part of the ETHICOMP Book Series, which gathers all the contributions submitted for ETHICOMP conference.
